Large Pallet Racking Project For Leading Home Delivery Company

14000 Pallet Positions For New ArrowXL Flagship Distribution Hub Created By Avanta UK

Avanta UK, the storage equipment specialist has completed a large pallet racking project for the UK’s leading two-person home delivery expert ArrowXL.

In April 2017, ArrowXL's hub in Worcester was completely destroyed following a fire. The senior management team took the decision to support its local workforce and rebuild the facility, situated on the Blackpole Trading Estate.

The new facility measures 258,000 square foot - which is 187m long x 91m wide and will be home to 250 people on a daily basis.

ArrowXL - “In total, we fulfil 55,000 deliveries across the UK each week and around 40% of those will be fulfilled from this new base in Worcester. It is a strategically important location for us, as we serve consumers across the Midlands."

Working closely with the Main Contractor A & H Construction & Developments PLC, Avanta designed, supplied and installed a UK manufactured pallet racking system in a wide aisle configuration up to 12m high to store 14000 pallets.

Other details include: -

• The racking system had bottom mounted beams to accommodate larger white goods and furniture.
• Working with the Specified Sprinkler Company, Avanta supplied and installed circa 4000 sprinkler brackets
• Each upright that supported a bottom mounted beam had a bespoke 600mm high Rack Guard upright protector. The remainder of the uprights had the standard 300m high guard.
• Each racking bay had appropriate end of rack protection utilising welded steel tubular barriers and single end runs protected with anti-collapse mesh
• Each pallet position is clearly labelled using magnetic labels
• Each pallet racking bay has end of aisle load notices in accordance with SEMA regulations

Avanta UK Ltd completed this project within the specified lead-time of 6 week manufacturing lead-time and a 10 week build time.
