Large Fire Rated Mezzanine Floor Project in Leeds

Leeds based storage equipment specialist Avanta UK Ltd has successfully completed a large scale fire rated mezzanine floor for Sika Everbuild, the UK’s leading sealant, adhesive and building chemical brand with sales in excess of £108 million and customers in over 70 countries.

Everbuild has made a commitment to invest in new product development and manufacturing infrastructure. The investment in increased storage space with the mezzanine platform for the Leeds site is part of the wider investment in additional new production machinery to increase capacity and speed of throughput.

The mezzanine floor needed to be fire rated as there is to be more than 3 people working on the floor at any one time. The 1 hour fire rating system is to meet building regulations and consists of a full suspended ceiling fitted below the floor using fire rated ceiling tiles and white vermiculux faced facia boards. The floor support columns are fully encased within white PVC Vermiculux board clip on casings.

Access to the mezzanine floor for employees is via a 1200mm wide steel staircase and for pallets via a pallet gate. The floor deck was in the standard 38mm boards and the floor is completed with 48 linear metres of edge protection. The weight loading is 480KG per square metre and all steels are CE Marked.

The project was completed to time and budget as promised and (as usual) Avanta handled the building regulations approval.
