Refurbishment of old Coach Works to Multi-functional Centre by Avanta UK

Operating as Principal Contractor Avanta UK co-ordinated and delivered their latest refurbishment project for UK Retail Giant Next Plc.

The Moseley Coach Fitters facility has been transformed from a specific use building for coach building, maintenance and repair containing inspection pits within bays and older welfare facilities to a new workplace that includes:

  • Staff Shop
  • Full Modern Human Resourcing Suite with offices, Interview rooms, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchens, reception area with Karndean flooring throughout and bright décor. A fantastic environment to work in.
  • A new Personalisation Sewing Room with bespoke worktables & furniture, sewing tables and screens.
  • Secure parking for 130 staff plus 30 additional spaces for visitors, candidates, and shop customers

The first task was to dig a 200m trench for data from 2x other Next sites to the newly named Elmsall Gateway and check all existing services were safe and serviced. As the site was initially made safe a new fire alarm system was installed.

Other main works included:

  • New roof and fascia painting
  • Improvements were made to outside areas with:
    • New lighting
    • CCTV
    • Barriers and mesh fencing
  • New resin flooring to the main warehouse area
  • New interior lighting
  • Full HVAC system
  • Runs of Armco Barrier
  • Secure internal and external areas created using mesh fencing.

Works were completed at a fast pace whilst working safely with full site supervision, weekly site meetings and ad-hoc catch ups.

Refurb Project Outcomes

The philosophy of the client and Avanta UK is make good use of every single square foot of space and with this new facility Next now has the space for:

  • A bright new space for the recruitment to work together as a team and to interview candidates in person or remotely.
  • The staff shop has been a fantastic addition.
  • With space being at a premium at other sites the first floor is to be utilized for operational & management development with socially distanced training courses for participants.
  • At ground level there is now a dedicated space for training on equipment that are to be used in the main warehouses.
