Avanta UK have recently completed a double deep pallet racking project for a leading manufacturer of contract flooring.

The warehouse, located in the North of England was previously used for manufacturing offered a 12,000 square foot floor space but was very restrictive in height.

The client required to store as many pallets as possible in the warehouse without the expense of going to “Live” or “Automated” systems. Avanta designed a solution to store circa 1200 pallets without the need for automation. One of the key elements of this project was the clients requirement to have goods stored off ground, however when presented with a very low height building Avanta were able to design racking with a narrow beam that enabled us to use the full height available whilst also taking into consideration LPC rules on sprinklers that were also part of this particular project.

The product to be stored was the same and uniform throughout and therefore lent itself to a double deep pallet racking system.

What is Double Deep Racking?

A variant on standard adjustable beam racking, Avanta offer British manufactured double deep racking, allowing pallets to be stored two deep but they are still accessible from the same aisle.

This particular design layout included 2, 3 and 4 rack configurations with access aisles designed in conjunction with the clients Fork Lift Truck provider.

Double deep racking reduces the number of access aisles and using the space saved to accommodate additional racking, a double deep racking configuration provides a highly space-efficient storage system operating on a first in, last out (FILO) system.

Due to the depth of double deep racking the ideal handling equipment is a stacker truck with telescopic forks.

This racking system is ideal for the storage of multiple pallet quantities of the same product that are not date sensitive and the system is space efficient due to the reduced number of access aisles.
