August 2010 - All Saints Continue to Put Their Faith in Avanta
Leeds-based Avanta UK has been awarded its second major contract, worth in excess of £500,000, by All Saints Retail, one of the UK’s fastest growing fashion brands.
Avanta UK designs and installs racking & shelving systems, partitioning and mezzanine floors as well as supplying a comprehensive range of ancillary products and services to the retail sector including top high street brands
Next, USC, and Mamas & Papas.
The contract sees
Avanta UK redesigning and relocating the ‘shop development’ operation which includes the installation of a new Fabrication room and Spray booth, along with all the necessary heating and extraction systems.
Avanta is also increasing storage capacity within All Saints’ distribution centre by extending the current racking layout and adding additional pallet storage, shelved picking locations for garments and bulk picking locations for footwear, as well as a unique high-density, mobile shelving system for the QC department.

June 2010 - Innovative Approach to Stockroom Storage from Avanta UK Helps AllSaints Build on Fashion Retail Success
An inventive approach to stockroom storage taken by
Avanta UK has helped one of the UK’s leading High Street fashion retailers enhance the efficiency of its retail operation. The project, undertaken for AllSaints in a number of the company’s stores nationwide, has addressed a key requirement which many in the retail sector will recognise – how to maximise storage capacity in often very limited or constrained areas.
To date the programme has seen the Avanta approach produce a remarkable average increase in capacity per store of some 174%.
Two key factors have contributed to the stockroom solution with the resultant benefits now being enjoyed in a number of AllSaints outlets. The installations have centred on use of the
‘Just’ shelving range that not only offers simple, versatile construction, but also provides a choice of standard or heavy duty shelving as well as a dedicated garment hanging option. Importantly, each location is now also gaining from the dramatic space saving advantages that arise from shelving installed in a ‘mobile’ configuration which, as
Andrew Chipp, Sales Director at Avanta UK explains, has been further enhanced by highly innovative thinking –
“The ability of mobile shelving to maximise capacity within a given footprint is well understood,” he says.
“Because it only requires one access aisle to be open at a time, the remainder of the mobile shelving facility can remain in a closed position, thus maximising the density of the ‘storage cube’. However, with garment hanging, there can be a risk that, where products overhang the edge of the bay, tangling could occur – which is not only inconvenient but, far worse, could lead to product damage."
“Our designers have addressed this by incorporating a simple buffer mechanism on each mobile base that prevents aisles from being completely closed while still providing sufficient benefit from the mobile shelving concept,” he continues.
“It is a simple approach but one which we believe has played a central role in enabling AllSaints to address a key storage issue, and one which is becoming increasingly significant across the organisation."
It is the success of the AllSaints operation in the last two or three years – both in the UK and internationally – that has seen greater demand placed on stockholding at each of its store locations around the country – the range of shoes alone, for example, has seen a 40% increase over the period. The highly competitive nature of the industry means that access to a range of product sizes and choices on site is clearly vital, and it is this need that the approach taken by
Avanta has addressed head on.
Andrew Chipp also adds emphasis to the suitability of the
‘Just’ shelving concept in this type of application –
“Its simple tap together and highly adjustable design offers unrestricted access to both sides of each shelving run – very useful in a mobile configuration such as at the AllSaints sites. With beams simply slotted into the uprights, the structure can hold either chipboard shelves or can be fitted with the purpose-designed garment hanging system – both of which we have used extensively as part of the AllSaints project."

Sept 2009 - Troax's Toledo cleanroom partitioning system for for medical device manufacturer Transpack Medical
Troax's Toledo cleanroom partitioning system has been used to create a 2,400 sq ft Class 7 cleanroom for medical device manufacturer Transpack Medical's new production facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. The cleanroom was installed by
Avanta UK Limited in the latest of a series of projects that the company has carried out for clients using Toledo partitioning.
Transpack Medical provides manufacturing services to the medical device industry, offering a specialist service of assembly, packing and sterilisation of medical devices to customers' specifications.
As part of its ongoing expansion, the company recently moved to new premises, an 11,000 sq ft facility with a ISO14644-1:1999 (Class 10,000) sq ft Class 7 cleanroom and packing area suite with a 3,000 sq ft mezzanine storage level above. Transpack Medical brought in
Avanta UK to construct the cleanroom, mezzanine level and other facilities on the site;
Avanta then specified Toledo partitioning as it offered a versatile and easy-to-build solution for the project.
Toledo's modular construction was an important advantage as the cleanroom layout has a number of awkward corners and angles and has been sub-divided to create additional areas such as a changing room and tube cutting room. Airlocks, consisting of two sets of double doors and transfer hatches which allow trollies to be pushed in and out of the area, have also been included in the design.
Explains
Andrew Chipp at
Avanta UK:
"Toledo partitioning is ideal for this type of project where high quality construction is required. Because of its modular design, the system is very versatile which makes it easy to adapt to the required layout, both in new premises and in older facilities where we may have to alter the design to fit within an existing layout. Clients also like the system as it offers them the flexibility to extend or alter the cleanroom layout in the future with minimal disruption and cost. We've used Toledo since it was first launched a few years ago and find it meets our requirements really well."
The Toledo system is produced in a steel, monobloc construction and uses an inert and non-particle shedding infill finish. To prevent the collection of particles and ensure easy to clean, smooth surfaces, Toledo is coated in powder paint and has a two-line panel junction and flush line double glazing, resulting in minimal ledges and corners.
Avanta also recently used Toledo partitioning to create a dust-free office suite for SCA Hygiene Products at their factory in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The three offices are situated in a cleanroom area where hygiene products are manufactured so an equally high level of construction was required for the office areas.
As
Andrew Chipp continues, Toledo's design made it the obvious choice for the project:
"Because Toledo is specially designed for cleanroom applications, it meets the strict cleanliness and hygiene standards required within the controlled environment of SCA's factory. Using Toledo, we've been able to create the high quality cleanroom environment required by our customer at an economical cost."
And, as a further illustration of Toledo's versatility,
Avanta also recently used the partitioning to create a cleanroom for a very different type of application - a production area for chocolate manufacturer
Horsley, Hick and Flower, part of the Kinnerton Group. Here,
Avanta constructed the cleanroom on a newly built mezzanine level when the company needed to create more space to introduce a new product line.
